7 Reasons Why You Should Consider Moving To Wrexham

Wrexham is a great town filled with lots to do and some fantastic properties. The town centre has just about everything and you’ll never struggle for something to do.

But should you move here?

In this article, we’ve featured some of the best parts about the area and reasons why you might want to consider the move.

You Can Get More For Less

We’ve talked about this previously in our article ‘What Can The Average Wrexham House Price Get You In Other Areas Of The UK?’, but you can find some great properties in Wrexham for less than you think.

For example the average house price in Wrexham is around £170,000, which could easily get you a fantastic 3-bedroom house. But if you tried to buy a property in the likes of London for that amount, you’d be lucky to walk away with more than a 1 or 2-bedroom flat.

As you can see, Wrexham is a relatively cheap place to move to. Depending on the size of your budget, you could find your perfect home without having to rob a bank.

Good Access To Elsewhere

If you wanted to venture outside the town of Wrexham, then you’re in luck.

Wrexham has a range of different transport options, with multiple train stations and a new bus station ready to take you anywhere. The train stations Wrexham Central and Wrexham General have connecting trains for places like Chester, Crewe, Manchester and even London.

The bus station also has connections to Chester and Mold and you can even get coaches to the likes of Leeds and Edinburgh. So you’re not exactly stuck if you fancy a day out somewhere else.

Shops, Shops And More Shops

One of Wrexham’s biggest selling points is the amount of shopping that can be done in the town.

Throughout the town centre you have big chains such as Primark, GAME and McDonald’s. Further into the town, you’ll find Tesco, CEX, Argos and a Pound Bakery (great for a cheap lunch!).

But wait, there’s more.

Late October 2008 saw the opening of a brand new shopping centre Eagles Meadow on the edge of the town centre. The opening of Eagles Meadow gave the Wrexham shopping scene a breath of fresh air and has enjoyed success ever since.

Eagles Meadows boasts an impressive range of shops and restaurants, offering something for everyone. Some of the shops include Boots, Topshop/Topman, The Entertainer, O2, River Island and Pandora. If you’re looking for a place to eat, you can choose from Frankie & Benny’s, Nando’s, Subway, Greggs, Burger King and even a Starbucks for all the coffee lovers.

There’s still more!

Once you’ve finished shopping to your hearts content, you can enjoy a movie at the Odeon cinema or try your luck at a game or three of Tenpin Bowling. They don’t lie when they say there is something for everyone.

Education Is Important As Well

Now that we’ve looked at some of the things that make Wrexham a fun place to live, let’s talk about education.

If you’ve got kids, we can imagine that finding the right school is an important factor to consider when moving to a new area. Wrexham has a great range of schools, with 15 primary schools and 4 secondary schools to choose from. If you’d like more information on the Wrexham schools, have a read of our guide here.

Wrexham also has a fantastic learning facility in the Yale College of Wrexham located on Grove Park Road. The college merged with Deeside College in August of 2013 to form Coleg Cambria and offers a range of courses and apprenticeships.

If you’re interested in furthering your education, Wrexham’s Glyndwr University is an excellent choice. Opening in 2008, the university has multiple courses to offer and even has it’s own radio station, Calon FM. Courses vary from art and design to journalism to psychology, you’ll be sure to find the course suited to you. For more information on Yale College or Glyndwr University, visit their websites.

Are You A Fan Of Sports?

Sports fans rejoice! Well, fans of Wrexham FC and he Crusaders anyway.

The Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium in Wrexham is home to the Wrexham FC football team and the rugby league team The Crusaders, hosting regular matches for both teams. Whether you’re a proud fan or just enjoy the sport in general, you’ll always be able to see a good match and enjoy yourself.

The stadium occasionally hosts other events as well, such as music concerts. The most recent ones include X Factor star Olly Murs and Welsh rockers Stereophonics.

Looking For A Good Night Out?

If you’re after a fun night out, Wrexham has a couple of great options.

Wrexham is filled with some fantastic pubs and clubs such as Voodoo Moon, The Crafty Dragon and Liquid & Envy. It’s not hard to find somewhere you like, with multiple choices across the town centre.

There is also a great local music scene, with Wrexham having some fantastic live music venues. The most popular venue is Central Station, a 550 capacity venue that has seen the likes of Scottish heavy rockers Biffy Clyro and Busted/Fightstar frontman Charlie Simpson. Always proven to be a great night out, the venue also doubles up as a nightclub for rock and dance nights.

As well as Central Station, you also have live music in venues like Rewind and Set The Bar. You also have the annual Focus Wales Festival, taking place in multiple venues across town over 3 days and bringing together bothlocal and established bands. Wrexham tends to host a variety of different kinds of festival throughout the year, so there is always a good time to be had.

Fun For All The Family

After moving to Wrexham, we doubt you’ll ever be stuck for something to do with the whole family.

Wrexham is the home for the official Wales Comic Con, which sees a range of different famous actors, writers and artists in one place. The event is the ultimate meet and greet experience for some well-known characters and it’s a guaranteed fun day out for the family.

Taking place twice a year, it’s held at Glyndwr University and has seen the likes of DC/Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, Doctor Who stars Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy and Warwick Davis from Star Wars and Harry Potter fame.

Not only can you meet some of your favourite film and TV stars, but also there are lots of different stands and activities going on and lots and lots of people dressed up, perfect for photos with the kids.

If you’re after something with a little more nature involved, you have some beautiful history only a stone throw away. For example, you have Erddig Hall, which is a National Trust property filled with lots of history and family events throughout the year.

Another National Trust property is Chirk Castle, surrounded by breath-taking scenery and fun whilst educational for kids. If you want to escape from the town centre, these aren’t a bad alternative option.
